Medical Details

When Ayan was studying in LKG, he used to get periodic-high-fever and though he was on antibiotics the fever wouldn’t subside. Ayan was under the care of his grandmother for 2-months; as his mother was hospitalised due to complications in her second pregnancy. In a span of 2-months the child lost weight and his skin had turned yellow. After been taken to various clinics and government hospitals in Kolkata, despite the blood-tests; there were no improvements and they couldn’t identify the cause of his sickness.

A CT scan and some tests in another government hospital revealed the presence of a tumour in his stomach next to the liver. A surgery was conducted after 6 months of diagnosis, but unfortunately it was unsuccessful. The disease had spread to the entire liver and the biopsy confirmed it was cancer. A month after his surgery tests showed the presence of a tumour in the surgery area. The doctors conducted an additional surgery but the tumour surfaced again after a weeks’ time.

Ayan was taken for treatment to Ambedkar Hospital in Bangalore and later to KIDWAI, where he was diagnosed with Embryonal–Rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS).The doctors explained the line of treatment; a total time frame of 14 months and the estimation of the treatment {Chemotherapy + Radiation + Surgery}.He was taken to HCG hospital for a second opinion from Dr. Raghavendra. Ayan underwent surgery 3 more times but there seemed to be no progress as the cancer had spread to the entire liver. The only solution was to remove the infected portion of the liver. A decision was taken to wait until Ayan was 11 years and continue the treatment with radiation followed by medication and follow up every 6-months.
