About Uma Samanta
Uma Samanta is 28-years old, from Midnapore in West-Bengal. She stays with her husband – Pallab, daughter -Khushi and her father-in-law. Her father-in-law is a farmer, husband works at an electric shop, her daughter is studying and Uma takes care of the household.
Medical Details
It all started in 2013, when Uma began experiencing back and leg pain. Her husband took her to a local hospital in Kolkata, where she got an X-ray and post-analysis; the doctor informed that there was an issue with her spinal-cord and prescribed medication. As there was no significant improvement, they went to Sri Sathya Sai Hospital in Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh. Here, after undergoing an MRI-Scan, the report confirmed the presence of a tumor on her spinal-cord. A surgery to remove the tumor was suggested by the doctor, who referred them to Dr.Pramod at HCG Hospital, Bengaluru; post which Uma underwent the surgery to remove the tumor.
Six-months later when Uma was on her follow-up consultation, the doctor informed her that the tumor had recurred and suggested treatment by Injection. Uma has taken 15 injections up till now, each at the cost of INR 30,000/- and the size of the tumor has decreased. This past year has been very difficult for her and due to the pandemic she has lost out on almost a full year of treatment. The tumor increased in size and the pain intensified, she was given immediate treatment through Injection and has been informed to undergo surgery.
